1852-1925 Norwegian Christian Krohg Gallery Krohg was educated in Germany at the Baden School of Art in Karlsruhe under Hans Gude[1], and later worked in Paris from 1881 to 1882. Inspired by the thoughts of the realists he chose motives primarily from everyday life ?C often its darker or socially inferior sides. Particularly well known are his pictures of prostitutes, and his novel Albertine from 1886 is about this theme. The book caused a scandal when first published, and was confiscated by the police. Krogh??s powerful and straightforward style made him one of the leading figures in the transition from romanticism to naturalism, characteristic of Norwegian art in this period. Through his periodic residence at Skagen, where he arrived for the first time in 1879, he had great influence on Anna and Michael Ancher, and provided early support to Edvard Munch. Krohg was a journalist in the Oslo newspaper Verdens Gang 1890-1910, where he wrote remarkable portrait interviews. Later he became a professor director at Statens Kunstakademi (The Norwegian Academy of Arts) 1909-1925. Mikolas Ales
(November 18, 1852 in Mirotice near Pisek - July 10, 1913 in Prague) was a Czech painter. Ales was born in 1852 in Mirotice into a relatively rich family that was in debt at the time. He was taught history by his brother Frantisek until his death in 1865; he expressed interest in painting at an early age. In 1879 he got married to Marina Kailova and moved to Italy where he continued his career in painting. He moved back to Prague working on the new artwork at the Prague National Theatre; he died in Prague at the age of 60. Ales is estimated to have had over 5,000 published pictures, he has painted for everything from magazines to playing cards to textbooks. His paintings were not publicized too widely outside Bohemia, but many of them are still available, and Mikolas Ales is certainly regarded as one of the country's best painters

Spanish painter (b. 1615, Madrid, d. 1673, Madrid) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period. He was born at Bassano del Grappa near Venice, the eldest son of Jacopo Bassano and grandson of Francesco da Ponte the Elder. He studied with his father and worked in the Bassano family workshop along with his three brothers, including Giambattista and Girolamo. He moved to Venice where he ran the branch of the family business, and where he was employed to paint a series of historical pictures in the Doge's Palace, but prone to hypochondria and other ailments, committed suicide by throwing self-defenestration soon after his father's death in 1592.
